Our initial plan was to visit our favourite park and take our favourite walk along our favourite path. But, alas, our favourite parking lot was full. As it also happened to be the only parking lot, we found ourselves with the opportunity to find a brand new path to explore. What better way to spend a warm fall day than forging a new trail? (Okay, technically it had already been forged by road graders and gravel-suppliers -- but still!)
We found a quite and beautiful path, shaded by a canopy of the same gold and orange that carpeted the ground beneath our feet.
Would you like to see a bit of what we saw?
This is a glimpse down the steep ravine. From here, the brook looked almost still.
The bushes hung heavy with pincherries, chokecherries and bright red rose hips. Lots of snacks for the birds and squirrels!
A true vision of the autumn season! A tree fallen on a bed of golden leaves. There is clear evidence on the trunk of where the woodpeckers used to visit when the tree was standing.
We didn't see too many wild creatures, although I thought I saw a squirrel bounding across the ground in the distance, and someone else sighted a blue jay high in a tree. However, here's an image of some of our autumn-time friends.
A couple of young mallards feeding for their first migratory flight. Notice all the minnows trying to get a share of the bread!
Have a good fall! And don't forget to take a few good walks!
